An early candidate to succeed Dani Sturtz for CPTC comeback of the year is our own Rae Baymiller, now 67, who has restarted her quest to re-write the record books in long distance running. For those without an internet connection, Rae is one of the greatest masters athletes of all time, being the oldest woman to break three hours for the marathon, at 2:52, age 55, which is still a world record.

What force of nature brought together 50+ runners Alan Ruben, Michael Rennock, Peter Allen, Yasuhiro Makoshi, Stuart Calderwood, Tom Raymond and others onto a single team? And kept them (mostly) healthy? I don’t know, but they put three runners in the top 10 at Team Champs and continued their 2010 undefeated streak.

Over 300 runners and spectators, from founders to the next generation, were present at the 1st Founders 5k in Prospect Park. The first batch of pictures are posted.

Our teammate Hank Schiffman was at the awards ceremony of the Whiteface Uphill Bike Race one year, and heard that a woman, Louise Voghell, had completed both the foot race and the bike race up Whiteface.  In one of those searing moments that endurance athletes sometimes come to regret, he put together in his mind [...]

The highlight of the 2010 season is the same as the highlight of the 2009 season, just older: The 50+ men continue to run fleetly and wisely, going undefeated in the first three scoring races of the year. Six athletes have scored for our juggernaut: Alan Ruben, Tom Phillips, Tom Raymond, Stuart Calderwood, Yasuhiro Makoshi, and Peter Allen.

CPTC member Glen Redpath was interviewed in Runner’s World on how he manages to train for ultras in New York City. Short answer: 7000 calories per day!

Member of her high school state championship cross country team? Check. Ivy league champion in the mile? Check. Hedge fund manager? Check. And as of February 11, teammate Marge DeMarrais is the unofficial American record holder in the 1500.

Faster Masters has been more like Slower Writers recently. But with the new season, I have sharpened both my spikes and my pen, hoping to keep you orange folks in the know. . . .
