Report of Laurence Go of the 40+: The Staten Island Half

It was a great day for racing both near and far (more on the far later) as the 40+ men grabbed 3rd place at the Staten Island Half.    Our scorers: Eduardo Ribeiro Ferreira Mohammed Lahseni (was also the 1st scorer for the 50+ men) Stephen Curtis Eduardo our 1st scorer; 1:18:57, 5th in age (40-44), 78.45 AG%; who had quite the race and whom our co-captain David saw while on his way back at around mile 8 (which would have been mile 4 for Eduardo) had this to say of his incredible race: Unfortunately, I arrived late to the race…

Report of Hank Schiffman of the 60+: The Staten Island Half

Our 60+ men took 1st over WSX by 10 minutes and 41 seconds; we dominated: David Blumel, 1:30:50 / 80.07%, which was 35th out of 5539 men overall AG. 2nd in age group: That was about 10 miles farther than I prefer to race. At least the finish came before the collapse. Art Palmer, 1:33:18 / 77.95%, 67th AG overall men. 5th in age group. Last year 1:39:29 / 72.4%. His fastest was in 2016, 1:33:02 / 75.97%, but as you can see, Art’s AG% was significantly higher this year. Noel Labat-Comess, 1:33:20 / 77.18%, 81st AG overall men, his fastest SI…

Report of Mark Lindrud of the 50+: The Staten Island Half

Congratulations to the CPTC Mens 50-59 team at the Staten Island Half Marathon!  The squad continued to dominate its age group by decisively winning the race team title while also securing the 2019 NYRR Age Group Championship! Just two weeks after the Bronx 10-Mile race, the group demonstrated its speed by having all five finishers in the top 25 of the age category.  CPTC’s team scorers were Mohammed Lahseni (1:19:02), Daniel Gercke (1:21:53), and David Dorsey (1:27:00).  Their combined time of 4:07:55 was nearly 14 minutes ahead of second place Misty Mountain Runners. The masters 40+ and 50+ did indeed boogie oogie oogied at the boogie down Bronx 10 Miler!   Masters 40+ women were golden and totally triumphant sitting pretty at the top of the hill in FIRST PLACE!  Our first place scoring team was led by superstar newcomer Nicole Delaney, followed by the speedy rookie master Sarah Richardson, and our Ace in the hole Amy Kvilhaug!  Yes, Amy, we won!  Amy’s report: So thrilled to be back on the streets of NYC racing for CPTC. My life has undergone a significant transition with a move to Boston and taking over the Boston…

Report of Mark Lindrud of the 50+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

Welcome to the Autumn racing season and congratulations to the Men’s 50-59 team on their victory at the Bronx 10 Mile race! This year’s Bronx 10-mile race had great spectator temperatures with humidity levels a bit out of comfort range for racing.  The CPTC men’s 50-59 team had 8 racers cross the finish line.  CPTC’s team scorers in the 50+ age group were Brad Kelley (1:00:15), Daniel Ifcher (1:01:04), and David Dorsey (1:04:14).  Their combined time of 3:05:22 was over 13 minutes ahead the next place team. About 10 minutes before the start of the race Brad Kelley was quietly…

Report of Hank Schiffman of the 60+ & 70+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

Glory be on a beautiful day.  Our 60+ men finished 1st, with power to spare.  Our 70+ men took 5th, in a pinch.  It was nip and tuck with 70+. Captain Dave nursing a foot wound, Chip with an injury that cropped up, Bob could not run, leaving me and Alex with George as the wild card to get 3 pairs of legs over the finish line; George came through. [Unbeknownst to us, he only intended to run 2.5 miles; nothing like good weather to go the distance.] We had our 3 scorers! Though we finished last among the 5 scoring…

Report of David Alm of the 40+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

We had a very strong field at the 6th points race of the year, the Bronx 10 Mile. And despite going in with a huge lead over our competition, DWRT and NBR, we still gave it our all. That’s what makes CPTC so formidable, our ability to dig deep no matter the circumstances, and we never rest on our laurels.  Race day was a little warmer than any of us might have liked, starting in the low 70s at 8:00 a.m. and creeping up. This led to some tough later miles along the Grand Concourse, but many of our top…

Report of Sylvie Kimche of the 60+ & 70+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

It was a warm & humid Sunday morning and some of our runners had a great race while other suffered quite bit. The W60+ team of Barbara Byrne, new (young 60+) member Jeannine Antus & (top of her age group) Sherrel Harmon  took bronze behind NY Flyers and Van Cortland TC Barbara as usual was 1st in her age group and 1st for the team in a brilliant 1:21:06, an 8:07 pace. A performance worthy of a 86.84% AG%. She ran big negative splits of 41:30 & 39:36. Way to go Barbara! Here is what she had to say:  The…
