Report of Ani Go of the 40+ & 50+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

The masters 40+ and 50+ did indeed boogie oogie oogied at the boogie down Bronx 10 Miler!   Masters 40+ women were golden and totally triumphant sitting pretty at the top of the hill in FIRST PLACE!  Our first place scoring team was led by superstar newcomer Nicole Delaney, followed by the speedy rookie master Sarah Richardson, and our Ace in the hole Amy Kvilhaug!  Yes, Amy, we won!  Amy’s report: So thrilled to be back on the streets of NYC racing for CPTC. My life has undergone a significant transition with a move to Boston and taking over the Boston…

Report of Mark Lindrud of the 50+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

Welcome to the Autumn racing season and congratulations to the Men’s 50-59 team on their victory at the Bronx 10 Mile race! This year’s Bronx 10-mile race had great spectator temperatures with humidity levels a bit out of comfort range for racing.  The CPTC men’s 50-59 team had 8 racers cross the finish line.  CPTC’s team scorers in the 50+ age group were Brad Kelley (1:00:15), Daniel Ifcher (1:01:04), and David Dorsey (1:04:14).  Their combined time of 3:05:22 was over 13 minutes ahead the next place team. About 10 minutes before the start of the race Brad Kelley was quietly…

Report of Hank Schiffman of the 60+ & 70+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

Glory be on a beautiful day.  Our 60+ men finished 1st, with power to spare.  Our 70+ men took 5th, in a pinch.  It was nip and tuck with 70+. Captain Dave nursing a foot wound, Chip with an injury that cropped up, Bob could not run, leaving me and Alex with George as the wild card to get 3 pairs of legs over the finish line; George came through. [Unbeknownst to us, he only intended to run 2.5 miles; nothing like good weather to go the distance.] We had our 3 scorers! Though we finished last among the 5 scoring…

Report of David Alm of the 40+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

We had a very strong field at the 6th points race of the year, the Bronx 10 Mile. And despite going in with a huge lead over our competition, DWRT and NBR, we still gave it our all. That’s what makes CPTC so formidable, our ability to dig deep no matter the circumstances, and we never rest on our laurels.  Race day was a little warmer than any of us might have liked, starting in the low 70s at 8:00 a.m. and creeping up. This led to some tough later miles along the Grand Concourse, but many of our top…

Report of Sylvie Kimche of the 60+ & 70+: The NB Bronx 10-Mile Run

It was a warm & humid Sunday morning and some of our runners had a great race while other suffered quite bit. The W60+ team of Barbara Byrne, new (young 60+) member Jeannine Antus & (top of her age group) Sherrel Harmon  took bronze behind NY Flyers and Van Cortland TC Barbara as usual was 1st in her age group and 1st for the team in a brilliant 1:21:06, an 8:07 pace. A performance worthy of a 86.84% AG%. She ran big negative splits of 41:30 & 39:36. Way to go Barbara! Here is what she had to say:  The…

CPTCers go 50k in the City and the Country

Whether on city streets or mountain trails, CPTCers are getting out and doing some serious overdistance in unusual ways. As marathon season begins and many CPTC eyes look with hope to Staten Island, Chicago and Sacramento, I caught up with a couple of guys running off the front, for whom 26 miles is where the game starts. John Paulett has been running 100 to 150 miles per week getting ready for what he calls a ‘classic NYCM/California International Marathon double.’ The marathons are just five weeks apart, but no bother. When you run that much, wearing out New Balance Zantes…

Report of David Alm of the 40+: Team Championships

Gerry O’Hara Photo: Andy Kiss The CPTC M40 team is an absolute force in New York City road racing. Other teams have a lot of talented runners, but our depth is unparalleled. And we proved it with yet another first place finish at what is arguably the most competitive race of the year: Team Champs. We are solidly in first place for 2019, and it’s truly been a team effort, in this past race especially. As Coach Tony said after our victory, “Congrats on being great when it mattered most!” That’s for all of us. Now, to our scorers: Osvaldo Martinez led our…

Report of Sylvie Kimche of the 60+ & 70+: Team Championships

Jeannine Antus, Sherrel Harmon, Sylvie Kimche Photo: Sam La Fata It was a lovely morning for the ladies who were lucky to start their race at 7:00am, as the July 27 temperature was still manageable, the humidity bearable and the course was well shaded. Our four W60+ & W70+ racers all had excellent personal results.  Barbara Byrne: 39:29  7:54 pace, 1st in her W65-69 age group, 1st for our W60+ team and 85.93% AG%.  Sherrel Harmon: 49:33  9:55 pace, 6th in the same age group, 3rd for our W60+ team.  Deborah  Barchat: 50:44  10:09 pace, 3rd in her W70- 74 age…
